Can you sue a bank for harassment and freezing your bank account?

bank account
brenda e asked:

Can you sue a bank for harassment and freezing your bank account? I have been banking with this bank for 20 years now. And I owe them nothing. I am in some legal trouble with another bank that has nothing to do with them. Does anyone have any advice? I don’t see how they can freeze my account when I owe them nothing.

  1. Common says:

The question is WHY they froze your account. If it was pursuant to a valid court order or some rule that your account is subject to, then you don’t have any legal recourse.

If they simply froze it because they don’t like your dispute with the other bank, then you might have an action for damages. Either way, there’s no harassment here under these facts.

  2. Muker says:

No you can’t, see the banks work together and have paid a lot of money to buy congressmen so they could pass bills that allow them to do this to people.

  3. Teekno says:

A bank will only freeze your account if they’ve been given a court order or IRS freeze order. You can’t sue them for doing something they’re legally required to do.

You’re not telling the whole story. WHY, specifically, has this bank frozen your account and just how have they “harassed” you?
